Fresno Chaffee Zoo is always in need of volunteers to help with events, office work, grounds maintenance, education programs, animal care and just about anything else you could think of! Most volunteer opportunities are for adults 18 and older.

SPECIAL EVENTS VOLUNTEER Volunteers assist with Zoo fundraising events such as Breakfast with the Animals, ZooToDo, Ice Cream Zoofari and ZooBoo. Responsibilities could include serving food, selling raffle tickets, checking in vendors or event cleanup. For fundraising events we prefer to work with groups represented by one contact person, but individuals can be taken as needed.
CLERICAL SUPPORT VOLUNTEER Volunteers assist Zoo staff with answering phones, copying, filing and helping with mailings.
ANIMAL CARE ASSISTANT Volunteers work with the animal staff to prepare food and maintain exhibits.
HORTICULTURE ASSISTANT Volunteers assist the horticulture department with the care and maintenance of the grounds.
STINGRAY BAY VOLUNTEER Volunteers assist staff at the Stingray Bay exhibit to provide guidance to visitors at handwashing facilities and throughout the exhibit. Uniform required.
TROPICAL TREASURES VOLUNTEER Tropical Treasures is our newest attraction inside the Rain Forest. Volunteers provide guidance to visitors and assist in finding the "treasures" of frogs, reptiles and birds hidden within the exhibit. Uniform required.
ZOOLYNX DOCENT Docents act as ambassadors of the Zoo and form the core of our educational volunteers. Training and uniform required. Docent training classes are held several times a year. If you are interested in becoming a Docent, call our Volunteer Coordinator at 559-498-5945 for more information.
ZOO ADVENTURES JR. COUNSELOR This is a special volunteer opportunity for individuals ages 14-17 during our Zoo Adventures programs. Volunteers assist the education department staff with spring, summer and fall programs for children and participate in a valuable experience while helping kids to understand and appreciate the natural world.
Teen LEADERS Fresno Chaffee Zoo’s “Teen LEADERS” (Lead by Educating with Activities and Demonstrations on the Environment, Resources and Sciences) age 14-18 focus on educating the public on human impacts and conserving healthy aquatic habitats. Teen LEADERS train during the Spring months, then volunteer at the Zoo all summer to share and suggest consumer actions linked to water quality, urban runoff pollution and ocean habitat impacts. Teens engage guests in brief games and activities to illustrate global and local water resource issues, and also do service learning projects through field trips to the San Joaquin River and the Central Coast. For more information, please see the attached information flyer. Student volunteer applications are due February 27, 2012.
